Brilliant Day - learned so much!

Posted by Rebecca Benneyworth on 14th Sep 2023

This was a departure for Christine I think as I am a ‘self (mum) taught’ smocker who needed advice and tuition to improve my work. We had a lovely day and I’m so very proud of the progress I made. I learned so much technical detail which will help my smocking techniques - I have improved beyond comparison! Christine was supportive and let me work at my own pace. I cannot recommend her courses too highly. Brilliant for beginners and improvers alike! Thanks so much. Rebecca, that is so kind and thank you :-)

Posted by Veronica on 16th Mar 2020

From the moment I arrived I felt extremely welcome. The course was fantastic in every way. I learnt so much and would recommend it to beginners and experienced sewers alike as Christine tailored the course to my needs. Thank you so much Veronica, it was a pleasure to teach you and I look forward to seeing your finished work. Christine

      BEGINNERS HAND SMOCKING

Posted by Sue on 8th Dec 2015

My husband surprised me with this wonderful present! What a lovely day I had! Christine was so helpful, her instructions were perfect for a newbie like me! I came away with lots of hints and tips to keep me going at home. I shall certainly be back for more classes, it was just so enjoyable! I'm looking forward to spending my evenings tucked up stitching away!

      Fantastic day.

Posted by Kate on 8th Sep 2015

Absolutely superb class. Learned so much from Chris, who is an excellent teacher. Not only did I learn stitches but also pleating and lots of little tips and tricks that you can't learn from a book. Highly recommend this class I have a new hobby for life now.

    • Deighton's Silver Smocking Transfer dots yellow would be best for dark coloured fabrics, They may be difficult to see on heavily patterned fabric, better to print onto a strip of white cotton lawn and then pick up the dots through the lawn and your own fabric, One sheet in each pack, save money when buying more than one sheet,
How to use Transfer Dots:
Place the transfer over the wrong side of the material, being careful to put it on accurately and leaving space for a seam. Iron off the dots, using a moderately hot iron , if the dots do not iron off then run your iron over the sheet again. Will not transfer well on fabrics with a cut spot unless you remove the cut spot because of the uneven surface ,
See video on how to use these dots
Do not iron off more rows than required as they are not designed to wash off
Iron on Smocking Dots – another way to use them

Did you know, once you cut off the number of rows you need, you can pin the dots to your fabric and pick up each dot through the tissue then tear away the tissue once you have picked up all the rows.

Don’t forget to put a knot on the end of the thread, so you don’t pull it out as you go.
