      new needles

Posted by Unknown on 24th Jan 2018

I tried replacing the one needle that broke, only to have many others break straight away, so I renewed all the needles as the others were quite old but even so I have already broken one of the new needles. I've checked that they are all seated correctly, the pleater turns easily when there is no fabric in it so I don't think it is they way I am putting the needles in. I used light fabric which the house of smocking kindly provided so it was not the fabric that was at fault. I wonder if all the needles are as sharply pointed as they should be. Reply For older machines, it is always best to supply an old original needle for me to match as needles changed when newer models came out.

    • Current Model Read Pleater,
Read 24 row Maxi Pleater has half cm spacing across the entire width of the roller (47 needles).
Half spaces can be used as guide lines when smocking and to improve holding difficult fabrics which tend to bubble.
The Maxi can also be used as a Regular pleater (24 needles) by removing the half space needles (every second needle).
This pleater has the following specifications
Heavy duty stable base-plate with anti-skid rubber feet
Extra large side-plate opening allowing for large capacity of rolled-up fabric
Simple, pin-type roller holding system allows for quick and easy needle access
Comfortable and user-friendly dual handles for maximum versatility
Heavy-solid brass rollers
Capable of handling heavy-weight fabrics
Comes complete with Original Read Needles
My personal opinion
This is a great machine and will cope with most pleating tasks
The two handles gives that extra grip with thicker fabric or if you are left handed
Plus points - Very easy to remove the roller to change the needles,
Full length half space rows so if you are smocking shoulder to waist or use silk fabrics or prefer more guide rows, then this is the machine for you
Minus points - non really just a shame the base is that bit larger to sit directly on the Feeder box like the Princess Pleater
Can be used with the Pleater Feeder using the adapter lid
Adapter lid supplied free when buying a pleater and feeder Read Pleater with the Pleater Feeder and Adapter lid Current Model Read Pleater,
